Gearbox in wind turbine is an important mechanical component. Its main function is to transmit the power generated by wind wheel under the action of wind force to the generator and make it get the corresponding rotation speed. Since the rotating speed of the wind wheel is very low and cannot meet the rotating speed required by the generator for power generation, it must be realized through the speed increasing effect of the gear pair of the gear box, so the gear box is also called the speed increasing box. According to the general arrangement requirements of the unit, sometimes the transmission shaft directly connected with the wind wheel hub is integrated with the gear box, or the transmission shaft and the gear box are respectively arranged and connected by an expansion sleeve device or a coupling. In order to increase the braking capacity of the unit, a brake device is arranged at the input end or the output end of the gear box, and the blade tip brake (fixed pitch wind wheel) or variable pitch brake device are used to jointly brake the transmission system of the unit.

The gear box is installed in a narrow space on the top of the tower. Once there is a fault, it is very difficult to repair. Therefore, the reliability and service life of the gear box are much higher than those of ordinary machines.
